Chosen: Whilst researching the tragic death of his great grandfather, an engine driver, Griff Rhys Jones stumbled across this stat from a time of unregulated industrial expansion. It’s worth comparing to the more recent figure. (It later emerges that Griff’s relative is killed after a drunken street brawl, but that there was a family cover-up)
